Ejzenštejn v Guanajuate

Ejzenštejn v Guanajuate

Film Petera Greenawaya ponúka možnosť nahliadnuť do desiatich dní, ktoré otriasli Ejzenštejnom; do dní, ktoré ho natrvalo ovplyvnili a formovali. “The ten days that shook Eisenstein,” thus the legendary Soviet director describes his adventure in Mexico, in the cinematic retelling by the contemporary classic Peter Greenaway. In the 1930s, the already world-renowned filmmaker Eisenstein arrives in Mexico to shoot his opus, but his plans are complicated by conservative Hollywood investors, a restricted travel visa, threats of kidnapping or a forced return to the USSR, and most of all, by the relationship he develops with his local guide. The film mixes an explicit comedy with cinephile masturbation, history and imagination, a story of forbidden love as well as a parable about sex and death. The visually opulent work is an impressive cascade of allusions to film history, explorations of physicality and philosophy ruled by the enchantingly energetic Elmer Bäck, playing Eisenstein with impossibly ruffled hair, the visionary to whom the film bows. Since its premiere at Berlinale, it has gathered rave reviews by critics and audiences alike.
